Scouting @ SJD

The Church of St. John the Divine has a strong tradition of supporting Scouting for youth. SJD serves as the charter organization for multiple levels of scouting; enabling youth from age five to twenty to benefit from all Scouting has to offer. Active scouts work on skills by utilizing emotional, physical, and spiritual guiding principles, and experience servant-leadership, outdoor adventure and community support through volunteerism. While many participants of our scouting program are members of St. John the Divine, the majority are not. Our scouts have a broad range of economic, ethnic, and school backgrounds.

Cub Scouts

Cub Scout Pack 55 is one of the largest area co-ed elementary school packs with 100+ active youth. Cub Scouts are grouped into dens for boys and dens for girls based on their academic grade and school. Pack 55 has large pack meetings and small den meetings, as well as special events like the Pinewood Derby, skills games, popcorn sales, and achievement celebrations The pack hosts three annual campouts with outdoor skills and fun campfire skits.

Scouts BSA

Scouts BSA (for youth 11 – 17 years old) is a youth-led program for young adults who commit to living by the Scout Oath and Law. While Troop 54 girls and Troop 55 boys meet and camp separately, both focus on the guiding principles of developing good citizens and servant-leaders and working well with others. Scouts connect in patrols of 10 – 15 youth for weekly meetings, monthly campouts, and exciting summer camps

Venturing

Venturing Crew 55 is a co-ed youth-led organization focused on high adventure, including camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and mountaineering as members develop leadership skills. While Crew 55 is closely associated with Troops 54 and 55, membership is open to any youth that meets the age requirements and agrees to abide by the oath and rules of the organization
